Duration: 55 seconds

So initially, in the first trimester, we’re looking to get to know you, understanding your past medical history, past obstetrical history, maybe you’ve had some previous births, but we also need to do a complete physical exam in the first part just to make sure that everything is running normally.

Usually that involves a breast exam, a pelvic exam, we assess the size of the uterus as well as doing some other things, a thyroid exam, checking your blood pressure. Also, in the first trimester, it’s really important to discuss genetic screening if there’s – if that is a route that you wanna pursue.

It’s important to do this as early as possible so that you have as many options available to you as possible. If you have any further questions about your prenatal visits, please contact your maternity care provider.
