Madison Williams Bio

"I am the 4th generation of my family born & raised in small North West Coastal city of Prince Rupert – a notoriously wet and friendly community! I felt deeply rooted and connected to the people there growing up but always wanted to explore the diverse opportunities and learnings of a bigger city. I am grateful that TSC has offered me the opportunity create a connected community in “the big city”, across the country, and even the world that feels like home! My family always had strong matriarchal figures whom I looked up to for many reasons. I think about them often and it makes me very proud now to be a leader in our TSC family. My interest in scoliosis and initial drive to join The ScoliClinic was rooted in personal experience. I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was nine, wore a brace for the majority of my pre-teen/teenage years, and had a surgery related to my scoliosis at age ten. Though this created a number of struggles that were at the times overwhelming for myself and my family, I can now look back on it with gratitude as it is what has brought me to such a meaningful career. Whether it be in my role as a physiotherapist or as an owner, I have the opportunity to have an impact on other with shared experiences every day. Each massive or tiny win I am privileged to share with my clients and team members shows me the positive ripples turned tidal wave my scoliosis offered. I hope to share this with everyone I touch with in my work at The ScoliClinic! I value collaboration – I may been formally educated on scoliosis but believe each client is the expert on themselves and their life, so I ask for a lot of input when creating treatment plans. My sessions are education-focused – I’ve found that many past “failures” with treatments come from a mis-match in understanding the “why” behind exercises or recommendations. Most people don’t do something just because someone told them to! This is reflected in all the time spent learning and exploring in treatment sessions, not just exercising or doing manual therapy. This goes both ways – we’ll have a lot more success (however that looks for you) if I can understand your “why” when it comes to getting connected with TSC. I’m authentic – I love what I do, even when there are tricky days, I hope people who interact with me can feel that. My Scoliosis-focused practice is strengthened by the following certifications: Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School – C2 – March 2020 Kinetacore Functional Dry Needling – Level 2 – November 2018 Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School – C1 – November 2016 Kinetacore Functional Dry Needling – Level 1 – August 2016 UBC Master of Physical Therapy, 2015"

Sciatic pain or sciatica is a common symptom rather than a specific diagnosis. It refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down through the buttocks and into the legs. This pain can vary in intensity and location, but it typically affects one side of the body.

The sciatic nerve can be irritated or compressed due to various underlying causes. Some common reasons for sciatic pain include:

  1. Lumbar disc herniation: When the gel-like material inside a spinal disc protrudes or leaks out and presses on the nerve roots, it can cause sciatic pain.

  2. Spinal stenosis: This condition involves the narrowing of the spinal canal, which can put pressure on the sciatic nerve roots.

  3. Piriformis syndrome: The piriformis muscle, located in the buttock region, can sometimes irritate or compress the sciatic nerve, resulting in similar symptoms to sciatica.

  4. Spondylolisthesis: This occurs when a vertebra slips out of place and puts pressure on the nerve roots that make up the sciatic nerve.

  5. Muscle imbalances or tightness: Issues such as muscle imbalances, poor posture, or tightness in the muscles surrounding the spine and pelvis can contribute to sciatic pain.

  6. Trauma or injury: Accidents or injuries that affect the lower back or buttocks can lead to sciatic pain.

It's crucial to consult a physiotherapist or healthcare professional for a thorough assessment when experiencing sciatic pain. They will evaluate your symptoms, perform physical examinations, and may request imaging tests to identify the specific cause of your pain. Based on the findings, an appropriate treatment plan can be developed, which may include exercises, manual therapy, pain management techniques, and lifestyle modifications.

Remember, each case of sciatic pain is unique, and the treatment approach may vary depending on the underlying cause. A professional assessment will help determine the most effective strategies to alleviate pain, promote healing, and prevent future episodes.
