He subsequently completed his Internal Medicine training at the University of Saskatchewan and Adult Cardiology training at the University of Manitoba. During his cardiology training he was the Chief Resident and also the recipient of the Sanofi Heart and Stroke Foundation Cardiology Award. Dr. Fernandes was interested in echocardiography during his cardiology training. He pursued advanced training in level 3 echocardiography at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. His fellowship training included transthoracic, transesophageal and stress echocardiography. His clinical interests include primary prevention, heart failure and valvular heart disease.
