Dr. Glenn A. van As is a highly experienced dentist who graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree in 1987. He has since been in full-time private general practice, serving the Lynn Valley community for over 27 years.
During his early career, Dr. van As also served as a part-time assistant clinical professor in the Department of Oral Medicine at the University of British Columbia from 1989 to 1999. This involvement in academia allowed him to contribute to the education and development of dental students while continuing to refine his own clinical skills.
Dr. van As has extensive experience in implant dentistry, having been involved in both placing and restoring dental implants for over two decades. In 2013, he completed a year-long master of implant training program at the gIDE implant facility in Los Angeles, under the guidance of Dr. Sascha Jovanovic. This program, in collaboration with UCLA and its department of continuing dental education, provided him with comprehensive training in implant dentistry.
As an active member of the International Congress of Oral Implantology (ICOI) and a past member of the Renaissance Implant Study Club in Vancouver, Dr. van As stays updated with the latest advancements in implant dentistry. He has experience working with various implant platforms, including HiOssen, Ankylos, Nobel, and Astra. Dr. van As has also written articles on the use of lasers with dental implants and was one of the early clinicians to introduce HiOssen Implants to Canada.
Dr. van As is involved in educating other dentists as well. He serves as a faculty member for the BITES Institute, where he teaches dentists how to place and restore dental implants in their own practices.
One of Dr. van As's notable areas of expertise is the use of the Dental Operating Microscope (D.O.M.) in clinical dentistry. Since 1997, he has exclusively incorporated microscopes into his daily dental practice. He has traveled extensively to lecture and publish on the benefits and challenges of using microscopes in dentistry. As a founding member and Past President of the Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry (A.M.E.D.), he continues to actively promote and advance the use of microscopes in dental care. Dr. van As has also released instructional DVDs on microscope positioning and integrating microscopes into daily dental practice.
