Dr. Chris Carter Bio

Dr. Chris Carter BSc, DC, MSc(PainMgt) Originally from Ontario, I was first introduced to British Columbia during my high school years which were spent in North Vancouver. I then went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Victoria and completed my Doctor of Chiropractic degree at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, graduating Cum Laude in 2006. A desire to live overseas quickly landed me in the southern hemisphere where I spent nine years in a Perth, Australia clinic gaining significant experience treating both adults and children with a wide variety of health conditions such back and neck pain, headaches, and sports injuries. With a passion for teaching, I also spent six of these years at a local university as a clinical supervisor teaching diagnostic and treatment skills to final year chiropractic students. More recently, I have taken an additional interest in helping those suffering chronic pain, and am currently finishing a Master of Science in Pain Management from the University of Sydney, Australia and I am a diplomate of the Canadian Academy of Pain Management. With these qualifications I look forward to being of assistance to the residents of Kelowna, along with the rest of the Active Living team, in chronic pain prevention and recovery. Whether you are suffering pain or are in need of an opinion on your joints, nerves and muscles, my approach to chiropractic emphasizes care that is in your best needs and aligned with your health goals. In addition to chiropractic manipulative techniques, I have completed the ART® and Graston® courses, and use rehabilitation and pain science education to help you feel better as soon as possible. Outside of the clinic, in my spare time, I enjoy playing hockey, tennis and golf. Also, a new interest in hiking sees me exploring the numerous local mountain trails. Should you have any questions regarding how chiropractic can be helpful for you, please feel free to contact me at the clinic.

It's great that you're considering chiropractic care for various conditions. Chiropractors can indeed provide treatments to address neuromusculoskeletal issues, including those related to scoliosis, hip and pelvis pain, and shoulder arthritis. However, it's important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional, such as a local chiropractor, to determine the most appropriate treatment approach for your specific situation.

For scoliosis, chiropractic care may involve spinal adjustments and exercises aimed at improving posture and reducing spinal curvature. A chiropractor can assess the severity of scoliosis and provide appropriate treatment recommendations.

In the case of hip and pelvis pain, chiropractors can assess the underlying cause of the pain and provide treatments such as spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, exercises, and other modalities to alleviate symptoms and promote healing.

Regarding shoulder arthritis, chiropractors may offer non-surgical treatment options to help manage the condition. These options can include rest, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs), chiropractic adjustments to improve range of motion, corticosteroid injections, and heat/cold therapy. However, the specific treatment plan would depend on the individual's condition and should be discussed with a chiropractor.

Remember, while chiropractic care can be beneficial for many individuals, it's important to have a thorough evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional to ensure that the treatments are appropriate for your specific needs. Consulting with a local chiropractor would allow you to discuss your condition in detail and determine the best course of action.
