Dre Assia Hassaine a suivi ses études de médecine à l'Université McGill et a obtenu son diplôme en 2004. Elle a ensuite complété une formation initiale en pédiatrie au Centre hospitalier universitaire Sainte-Justine affilié à l'Université de Montréal. Durant sa résidence en pédiatrie, elle a été représentante auprès de la Société canadienne de pédiatrie et a siégé à titre de représentante des résidents au conseil d'administration de l'hôpital. Elle a ensuite fait sa surspécialité en immuno-allergie clinique à l'Hôpital de Montréal pour enfants, affilié au Centre universitaire de santé de l'Université McGill. Elle a été coordonnatrice résidente de son programme et impliquée dans plusieurs protocoles de recherche au cours de sa formation. Depuis l'obtention de son diplôme, elle travaille au CSSS Champlain-Charles-Lemoyne, affilié à l'Université de Sherbrooke, où elle participe à des activités cliniques et pédagogiques auprès des étudiants et résidents en médecine. Elle participe également à la vulgarisation et à la diffusion de l'information auprès du grand public sur les maladies allergiques en participant à des présentations et à des cafés scientifiques. Le Dr Hassaine est membre du Collège des médecins du Québec, de l'Association des allergologues et immunologistes du Québec, du Collège royal des médecins et chirurgiens du Canada, de la Société canadienne d'allergie et d'immunologie clinique du Canada et de l'American Academy of Asthma, Allergie et immunologie.
