Raquel Feswick Bio

am extremely fortunate to come from a birthy family. My maternal grandmother birthed 12 babies naturally (including 9lb twins!), my paternal grandmother birthed 8 babies naturally and my mom had us 4 kids naturally as well. She was a natural birth advocate, a long time member of La Leche League and one of the original followers of the attachment parenting philosophy. My aunts were also of the “birthy” sort, giving birth naturally and at home. I was always overhearing birth and nursing talk and this made pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding a very normal and natural process for me. When I found out that I was pregnant with my first daughter, I knew immediately that I would birth at home, with midwives. In 2001, I gave birth at home, unintentionally unattended, to my first baby. The experience was exhilarating and profound. After struggling with life-long self esteem issues, I was amazed to see how powerful and capable I was! The experience left me with a newfound pride and confidence in my body and myself, that has never left me. Realizing the potential and sometimes long term implications of the birth process, I became committed to helping families have the best experience possible.
