Dr. Banno doctor knows nothing about the drugs he prescribes nor about what he and the pharmaceutical companies blithely call "discontinuation syndrome", otherwise known as withdrawal. Benzodiazepines are indicated for short-term relief only- 2 to 4 weeks (see below), yet he prescribed these for decades, despite the existence of a plethora of medical documentation since the 1960's warning of the dangers. He denied there was any problem with these drugs despite documentation presented to him. He claimed he had never seen it before. This class of drugs works by rewiring the brain/central nervous system and withdrawal can last months and years. The withdrawal can be so unbearable and unrelenting that many never able to get off them, many kill themselves. It is so intolerable. I know. I am nearly 4 years off this drug and still recovering. If doctors would listen to their patients and do their own research, countless lives would be saved and much suffering would be avoided. “The story of benzodiazepines has been described as a national scandal. The impact is too big for governments, regulatory authorities and the pharmaceutical industry to address head on, so the scandal has been swept under the carpet. Benzos are responsible for more pain, unhappiness and damage than anything else in our society.” Phil Woolas, MP, House of Commons, UK Royal College of Psychiatrists UK: http://www.rcpsych.ac.uk/healthadvice/treatmentswellbeing/benzodiazepines.aspx Committee on Safety of Medicines UK: http://benzo.org.uk/commit.htm Medical documentation: http://benzo.org.uk/docs.htm More Medical documentation: http://www.benzo.org.uk/amisc/rpeart.pdf Comprehensive information on how to withdraw: http://benzo.org.uk/manual/index.htm Comprehensive website: www.benzo.org.uk
