Your eyes have clear liquid that flows in and out, but if you have glaucoma, this liquid doesn’t drain properly, causing this buildup of IOP pressure. Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve, which is made up of nerve fibers and transmits images from the eye to your brain. If you have a condition known as ocular hypertension, which is a result of high ocular pressure, your risk of developing glaucoma increases.Your optometrist or ophthalmologist may want to lower your IOP as a preventative measure.

Our eye works a lot like a camera. In order for us to see clearly, the Cornea has light has to be focused by a lens. We are all born with a lens inside our eye that does this job for us and in early life it is crystal clear. As we age, this lens can become cloudy and begin to block light or create blur. We call this change in the lens a “cataract”.

Fortunately, cataracts are treatable through surgery. During cataract surgery, the clouded lens is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). This procedure is highly successful in restoring clear vision for most people, allowing them to see more clearly and improve their quality of life.

Arrogant and uncommunicative doctor. Laughed at the pronunciation of my previous doctor’s name and gave minimal information on my diagnosis. I left feeling stunned at the level of care.

Dr shaver performed cataract surgery for both eyes. Tests, surgeries, and checkups were handled very professionally My eyes are now incredibly improved - I paid for the upgraded lenses. Everything is lighter, brighter and clearer. I would recommend Dr Shaver and his clinic to anyone.

The staff at Dr Shaver's could not have been more friendly, courteous, and helpful. My experience with his team was excellent, both at the hospital and at the clinic.

I did not make it past reception. I take three medications to assist my breathing as I have low lung capacity and compromised respiration. I have had both vaccinations, the mask mandate was less than 12 hours from being rescinded and we live in North Island with zero covid 19 cases. I was informed I could wait outside which I did. There is no shade in the parking lot and we were in the middle of a heat wave.(Wednesday 30th June) I began to pant. I went back in to the empty waiting room and sat in the corner farthest from reception and pulled my mask down to expose my nostrils. I inhaled nasally and exhaled orally for a few minutes. I was almost back to normal when I was called to begin my appointment. The answer to my request to leave my mask exposing my nose was an emphatic no! I had no choice but leave and return to Campbell River. Three hours wasted and unfortunately a resentment for the staff of this office

I was given no update on my eyes since my last visit. I found him to be very intimidating and was too frightened to ask. I got a lecture on smoking I am 68 years old and can make my own decisions. When I I did ask him questions he spoke to me like I was a five year old. I have no idea if my cataracts are any worse than they were a year ago. There was no education given apart from just throw the cigarettes away.

Was rushed through a cataract exam and came out with very little/ no information about the state of the cataracts, options, time frames of progression. Left feeling very uncomfortable.

This office does not respond to formal, written requests; the reception staff is flippant and unprofessional; the office has refused to provide me with a copy of my clinical records, contrary to HIPPA guidelines and regulations. I have reported Dr Shaver's office to the College of Physicians & Surgeons this same date.
