Dr. David Cabral is a distinguished Professor in Pediatrics and holds the prestigious Ross Petty Chair in Pediatric Rheumatology at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He received his medical training at the University of Western Australia, and subsequently completed pediatric and rheumatology training at the British Columbia Children's Hospital (BCCH). From 2004 to 2021, Dr. Cabral served as the Head of the Division of Rheumatology. During his tenure, he had a clear vision of integrating research with clinical care and teaching, fostering a collaborative approach in the field of pediatric rheumatology. One of Dr. Cabral's notable contributions is the co-founding of the Young Adult Rheumatic Disease (YARD) clinic in 1992. This clinic was the first chronic disease transition clinic and has served as a model for other pediatric rheumatology programs across the country. The YARD clinic focuses on helping young adults with rheumatic diseases successfully transition from pediatric to adult healthcare. Dr. Cabral's research interests are diverse, including the study of juvenile idiopathic arthritis and pediatric vasculitis. He has actively participated in, and helped establish, national and international physician networks and patient registries dedicated to advancing knowledge in the field of pediatric rheumatic diseases. Currently, Dr. Cabral's primary research focus revolves around pediatric vasculitis. He serves as the principal investigator for the international Pediatric Vasculitis Research network, leading collaborative efforts to improve understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of vasculitis in children. Dr. David Cabral's extensive contributions to pediatric rheumatology, his commitment to research, and his involvement in national and international initiatives have made a significant impact on the field.
