Dr. Clay Ward Bio

Dr. Ward graduated from the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon. He received his degree in Human Biology and his Doctor of Chiropractic. He then returned to his hometown of Medicine Hat to practice for 2 years. With the draw of the west coast matching his lifestyle, and his wife, Natalie, being a native islander herself, they moved to Victoria where Dr. Ward joined the Murray Chiropractic Group for the last two years. Both clinics allowed Dr. Ward to be at the cutting edge of sports medicine and treat world class athletes in hockey, baseball, cycling, rowing, track & field, triathlon and more. Now Dr. Ward is very excited to bring his sports medicine background to Courtenay, B.C and the Comox Valley's thriving, active community at the new clinic, Dynamic Spine, Sport & Wellness. Dr. Ward is the team chiropractor for the Vancouver Island Performance Youth Racing Squad (VIPYRS), a youth development/high performance cycling team based out of the Comox Valley. Dr. Ward is a MASTER’s accredited ART® provider (Complex Protocols, Masters, Upper Extremity, Lower Extremity, Spine, Nerve Entrapment & Biomechanics). He is also fully accredited in Graston Technique®. Dr. Ward is a certified Level II Medical Expert with the Titleist® Performance Institute and in the Functional Movement Systems™ (FMS™, SFMA™). Both are utilized by individuals as well as teams (PGA, NFL, MLB, NHL, Pro Cycling, Soccer) around the world to enhance sports performance and reduce the likelihood of injury. Dr. Ward thoroughly enjoys being active whether it be biking, running, golfing, competing in triathlon, rock climbing, sailing, or hiking. He is a member of the Comox Valley Road Runners and the Comox Valley Triathlon Club. In 2013-2016 Dr. Ward qualified and competed at the Xterra World Championships for offroad triathlon in Maui, HI. He also enjoys mountaineering and has summited peaks such as Mount St. Helen's and the South Sister in southern Oregon. It's great that you're considering chiropractic care for various conditions. Chiropractors can indeed provide treatments to address neuromusculoskeletal issues, including those related to scoliosis, hip and pelvis pain, and shoulder arthritis. However, it's important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional, such as a local chiropractor, to determine the most appropriate treatment approach for your specific situation.

For scoliosis, chiropractic care may involve spinal adjustments and exercises aimed at improving posture and reducing spinal curvature. A chiropractor can assess the severity of scoliosis and provide appropriate treatment recommendations.

In the case of hip and pelvis pain, chiropractors can assess the underlying cause of the pain and provide treatments such as spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, exercises, and other modalities to alleviate symptoms and promote healing.

Regarding shoulder arthritis, chiropractors may offer non-surgical treatment options to help manage the condition. These options can include rest, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs), chiropractic adjustments to improve range of motion, corticosteroid injections, and heat/cold therapy. However, the specific treatment plan would depend on the individual's condition and should be discussed with a chiropractor.

Remember, while chiropractic care can be beneficial for many individuals, it's important to have a thorough evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional to ensure that the treatments are appropriate for your specific needs. Consulting with a local chiropractor would allow you to discuss your condition in detail and determine the best course of action.
