Professional Classes

This class is for emerging and established professional dancers who may be in between projects or simply interested in ongoing training. It is taught in cooperation with Urban Dance Projects and includes instruction by W&M Physical Theatre, University of Calgary faculty, local dance artists as well as national and international guests.

Pre-program Classes

Open only to members of the Surge Company and occasional special guests. For dancers 15-20.

Children's Classes

We are all dancers. Children quite naturally dance, sing, run, and enjoy being in these fabulous and interesting bodies. Some of us have always remained connected to a moving and dancing body, some haven’t visited that place in a while. Still, the dancer in us is there. To give all of us a chance to explore the natural pleasure of dancing, we offer the following classes:

Jump, twist, turn, roll and kick ? these classes are all about the many different ways the body can move. Dancers will explore their own sense of rhythm, coordination and individual expression, while learning how to incorporate group ideas and a broad range of dance movements and physical skills. They will learn to use movement to tell their ?stories? in a physical theatre approach to dance.

Teen Classes

Designed for students who love to move and are open to new ideas. These classes encourage an exploration of how the body can move and loves to move while instilling a sense of joy and freedom in the moment. Dancers will develop an awareness of their own sense of expression, while working from a physical theatre and dance training base.

Adult Classes

In a structured and safe atmosphere, we start with body movement and awareness, with simple work sitting in a chair. A method called GYROKINESIS?
