Featuring Dr. David Israel, BSc, MD, FRCPC, Gastroenterologist Treatment of Mild Acid Reflux in Children Duration: 1 minute, 5 seconds

The most common benign reflux is treated by good, healthy management of the infant. Burping properly, getting the air out, sometimes if that is not enough, keeping the child upright for a bit longer period of time after feeds.

Or, prolonging the feed itself. Those infants who are on formula - which is not the preferred way for us, we prefer children to be on breastfeeding - may go and change the diet with a consultation with a dietitian to choose a formula that is more likely to stay down and less likely to be reflux. And there are some of those, engineered so to say, formulas that would stay down better.

If you have questions about what kind of diet or how to best manage your child during feeding and decrease reflux, the best is to consult a dietitian and your family physician.
