One of the latest technologies to enter the BPH surgical space is Aquablation.

Aquablation utilizes the power of pressurized water, over 20,000 psi, all perform with a cystoscope, under robotic control and ultrasound guidance. So, it is the merger of robotics, ultrasound real time vision, and the pressurized a thermal water which will cavitate the opening of the prosthetic BPH zone, all within 30 minutes. Thereafter, the surgeon will use a loop and cauterize any forms of bleeding.

The true benefits of Aquablation is that we can treat up to any size prostate. All treatments are done under an hour and because of the precision of the water beam, there is little to no impact on ejaculation.

So there’s been two studies, one of prostates under 80 grams and those between 80 to 150 grams. There was over 90% and 85% of patients who maintain their ejaculation. So for the first time ever, compared to TURP, compared to greenlight, Aquablation is now a surgical therapy offered in Canada that can deliver BPH surgery with little to no impact on sexual function and ejaculation.

For more information on BPH therapies and evaluation. Speak to your family physician to get consultation to your local urologist.
