The autorefractor auto keratometer is a dual purpose computer which is used to objectively measure a patient's prescription.

It will tell the optometrist whether the patient might be nearsighted or farsighted or perhaps have astigmatism. It can also be used to measure the central curvature of the cornea.

The patient sits at the front end of the instrument and fixates a target and it will automatically make a printout, and that printout is used to start the patient in the more subjective examination in the doctor's office.
