You would know you need root canal therapy if you have any of the following symptoms.

For example, if you have a very severe response to anything cold, like a cold drink, some ice. If you have a very severe response to anything hot, like a cup of coffee, for example. Or, if you cannot bite on the tooth, if you cannot touch the tooth.

Or, if you have what we call a spontaneous pain. That is simply when you're going about your routine daily chores, you have a sudden severe episode of pain in a tooth. You know at that point that root canal therapy is necessary, so therefore you can either consult your general dentist or present directly to an endodontist.
