Dr. Alan Baggoo Bio

My passion is definitely Orthopedic Trauma. That is where I can do the most good. Being able to restore a severely injured person back to normal is why I am an Orthopedic Surgeon. My elective practice focuses on the lower extremity. I am well known in B.C. for my advanced training in foot and ankle problems. I also perform a large number knee reconstructive procedures, including knee replacement, and knee arthroscopy. I try to consider the entire limb – well…the entire person really – a poorly aligned femur, knee or tibia has dramatic effects on the function of the foot and ankle. Areas of Special Interest Foot and ankle reconstruction Ankle replacement and fusion Ankle arthroscopy Ankle ligament reconstruction Hindfoot and midfoot fusion, forefoot reconstruction Post-traumatic foot and ankle reconstruction Knee reconstruction Knee replacement Knee arthroscopy and sports medicine Orthopedic Trauma Certification Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) – speciality certification in Orthopedic Surgery College of Physicians & Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC) – Independent Practice License Education Fellowship – Foot and Ankle – University of Washington, Department of Orthopedics Orthopedic Residency Training Program – University of British Columbia, Department of Orthopedics Medical Degree (MD) –University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine Bachelor of Science – Simon Fraser University Hospital Affiliations Lions Gate Hospital – Active Staff Sechelt Hospital – Consulting Privileges Whistler Health Care Centre – Consulting Privileges Delbrook Surgical Centre – Active Staff University Affiliations UBC, Department of Orthopedics, Division of Lower Limb Reconstruction UBC Faculty of Medicine, Clinical Instructor Professional Societies and Associations AAOS (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons) COA (Canadian Orthopedic Association) BCOA (British Columbia Orthopedic Association) OTA (Orthopedic Trauma Association) COFAS (Canadian Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society) AOFAS (American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Association) Doctors of BC CMA (Canadian Medical Association)

During hip or knee replacement surgery, the surgeon removes the painful joint and replaces it with an artificial joint made from plastic, ceramic and/or metal.

Treatment for shoulder arthritis may include non-surgical approaches such as pain management, physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications. In more severe cases, surgery, such as joint replacement or joint fusion, may be considered to alleviate pain and improve shoulder function. It's important for individuals with shoulder arthritis to consult with a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan.
