The Chiropractors at Totum are concerned with how the body's neuromusculoskeletal system is functioning as a whole. They focus on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system, the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. They are specialists in using manipulations of joints within the body to improve range of motion and flexibility, and in so doing restoring proper function.
ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUES (ART)
Active Release Technique is a soft tissue management technique that helps restore optimal motion and function to the musculoskeletal system. This is accomplished through the removal of adhesions (fibrotic scar tissue) in the soft tissues via the application of deep tissue massage. Adhesions can occur as a result of acute injury, repetitive motion and constant pressure or tension. ART eliminates the pain and dysfunction associated with these adhesions. ART can successfully treat diverse types of conditions. Active Release Techniques are implemented during chiropractic treatment.
CONTEMPORARY MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE
Medical acupuncture respects our contemporary understanding of neuromuscular anatomy and pain physiology while embracing the classical Chinese perception of a subtle circulation network of energy called qi. It is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to restore function. According to the World Health Organization acupuncture has been shown to be an effective therapeutic modality in the treatment of digestive disorders, respiratory disorders, and acute and chronic neuromusculoskeletal disorders.
Our team of registered massage therapists use leading techniques to reduce muscle tension/spasm, promote healing, increase blood flow to muscles and aid in relaxation. Our therapists provide Swedish Massage Technique, sports massage and Shiatsu Massage. Shiatsu is a Japanese form of acupressure using finger pressure over the entire body for the restoration of health and overall well being.
