What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic philosophy begins with the principle that humans have an innate power to maintain health. The art and science of chiropractic focuses on adjustments to correct spinal malfunctions, called subluxations, in order to remove interference to the spinal cord and the nerves that exit between the bones of the spine. The nervous system controls all the organs and tissues of the body, so a nervous system functioning at its best facilitates the body's ability to cope with disability and disease. Because of its potential to enable patients to live healthier, more fulfilling lives, chiropractic has been called "The Big Idea."

The chiropractic approach to health care is holistic, stressing the patient's overall well-being. It recognizes that many factors affect health, including exercise, diet, rest, environment and heredity. Chiropractic focuses on maintaining optimal health naturally so that the body is better able to resist disease, rather than simply treating the symptoms of disease. Chiropractors use natural, drugless and non-surgical health care by relying on the body's ability to heal itself.

What is an adjustment?
An adjustment is a specific force applied to a joint that is subluxated or restricted thus allowing it to function properly Chiropractors are spinal specialists.

Our major concern is the prevention of spinal decay or Subluxation degeneration. When the spine and nervous system are malfunctioning due to physical, emotional or chemical traumathe body tries to stabilize affected areas. First there is inflammation and muscle spasming, then over time, if left untreated, calcium deposits gather up, and bone grows around the joint. This is the primary cause of Subluxation degeneration, which will lead to nervous system malfunctioning.

There are four major components of your body that are affected from Subluxation degeneration. They are as follows: JointMalfunction: When the spinal bones are out of position and have abnormal motion, this can lead to troubles in bending, turning and twisting, giving rise to stiffness and reduced range of motion.

•Malfunction: When the spinal bones are out of position and have abnormal motion, this can lead to troubles in bending, turning and twisting, giving rise to stiffness and reduced range of motion.
•Muscle Impairment: Too many nerve impulses may make the muscles too tight, and may cause a spasm. If there are not enough nerve impulses going to the muscles, then the muscle may get too weak to function properly.
•Tissue Injury: Connective tissues (i.e. discs, ligaments etc) are affected by Subluxation degeneration. Discs separating the vertebrae can tear, bulge or become herniated. Blood and lymphatic fluid can collect, causing a rise in temperature. Swelling and/or tenderness may develop.
•Nerve Impingement: The nerves of the body can be pinched, rubbed, or elongated. Although often undetectable, this can cause pain, numbness and tingling. Your nervous system controls all the systems in your body (i.e. circulatory, immune, endocrine etc.). This interference may cause the information sent by your nerves to be reduced. If left uncorrected this will have a negative affect on the normal function of many if not all the systems in your body.

Dr. Abdilmasih will adjust those areas that have become subluxated to prevent or control this process of degeneration. He will ensure that all the joints in the spine function properly. He may also prescribe specific exercises to correct and stabilize certain areas to make sure it doesn’t happen again! Please note that this process can apply to any joint in the body.
