Individual Therapy
(1 or 1.5 hour sessions)

In individual counselling, the client has the full attention of the therapist in a one-to-one atmosphere of understanding, warmth, and insight. Our therapists help in a variety of ways to address the client's issues and provide excellent sounding boards and compassionate listening.

Counselling is a collaborative effort between client and therapist. Our goal is to provide an open, supportive and confidential environment for clients to address the issues concerning them.

Couples/Relationship Therapy
(1 or 1.5 hour sessions)

Couples counselling is a way of resolving problems and conflicts couples have had difficulty handling effectively on their own. Some goals of couples counselling are to understand the relationship dynamic of the couple and to identify areas of strain or frustration that may be adding stress to the partnership. In a series of counselling sessions, the couple explores their perceptions of the relationship, their expectations of each other, and the situations which may be causing them to feel alienated from one another.  Couples counselling may help with communication difficulties, frequent arguments, anger, blaming and defensiveness, guilt, sex, intimacy, infidelity, unfulfilled emotional needs, financial concerns, parenting, life transitions, or a relationship crisis. Couples seek counselling for many different reasons and our therapists will work closely with you to discuss your specific needs.

At Concordia Counselling, we work with married and unmarried couples of all sexual orientations.

Family Therapy
(1 or 1.5 hour sessions)

Family therapy involves a whole family, or several family members meeting with the therapist to explore relationship dynamics and processes. We work with families to nurture change and development by addressing the systems of interaction among family members and to find new effective ways of communicating and coping.

The focus of family therapy is on the interactions between members rather than on individual members themselves. Regardless of the origin of the problem, and regardless of whether the clients consider it an individual or family issue, involving the entire family is often beneficial.

Adolescent Therapy

Childhood and adolescence are both times of tremendous growth and change. Sometimes young people can benefit from having a space outside of home and school to safely express themselves and receive additional support and guidance.

We are honoured to provide a warm and friendly atmosphere for young people and their families and to help provide support during times of transition and change, while introducing another caring adult into a child's life.

Areas that bring young people to our practice may include difficulties at home or in school, parent separation or divorce, sadness, depression, anxiety or worry, drugs and alcohol, eating disorders and body image concerns, bullying or interpersonal difficulties, or losses within the family.

Group therapy
(duration varies)

Group counselling typically involves 5-10 individuals all seeking support with similar issues. In group therapy there is an opportunity to relate to people in a safe environment, learn from the experiences of others with similar problems, and receive support and encouragement from other members of the group. Topics covered in groups include: depression, anxiety, addictions, anger management, infertility, parenting, and relationship difficulties.

Workshops
(duration varies)

At Concordia Counselling we provide psycho-educational workshops on various topics including drugs and alcohol, depression, anxiety, communication, emotional regulation, reducing stress, building self-esteem, body image, mindfulness, emotional regulation, and parenting. We are available to travel to schools, client workplaces, and community centres to provide workshops and we can tailor our presentations to fit your specific needs.
