Q:

What are the side effects of blood thinners?

A:

If you are taking a blood thinning drug, such as Aspirin, Clopidogrel, Prasugrel or Ticagrelor, the most common side effect would be bleeding. This can be seen by bruising easily if you were to injure yourself, or you will notice that a cut takes longer to stop bleeding. This happens because the body takes longer to clot when it starts bleeding due to the medication. If you have questions about potential side effects, you should review these with your physician.

Q:

Is it too late for me to quit smoking?

A:

The earlier you can quit smoking, the better. However, even if you stop smoking in your middle age or later years, you can still add years back to your life and improve your health. If you are contemplating quitting smoking, and feel you might be ready to take the next step toward improving your health, speak with your doctor about what might work for you.

Q:

What is the treatment for an allergic reaction?

A:

If your allergic reaction is serious enough to send you to the hospital, there are a few treatments that might be given to you based on the severity and type of your reaction. They range from antihistamines given to reduce the swelling and rash, up to IV fluids and to heart monitoring or hospitalization in more serious reactions.
