Our Outreach Services
» Referral Program: allows Seniors Outreach to receive referrals from seniors, community professionals, family, neighbours and caregivers, and to refer callers to our own programs and other services in the community.
» Visitor Program: matches clients and volunteers, under the direction of the coordinator. Volunteer visits may be requested directly by the client, her/his family/friends, or by a healthcare professional, and are usually arranged on a weekly basis. Assessment as to suitability is determined by coordinator.
» Telephone Assurance Program: for seniors who prefer a telephone call only, as a way of visiting. Allows housebound individuals the opportunity to volunteer.
» Seniors 'Coffee Breaks': provides a social opportunity for seniors to meet other seniors in their own neighbourhoods, and make connections. Volunteer hosts welcome participants. Drop-in at any group; no fee or registration required. Capri: Mall Food Court: Thursdays, 1-2:30. Mission: The Haven Restaurant: Mondays, 10-11:30 (to the left of the front desk) Rutland: Fernbrae Manor: Thursdays, 1:30-3:30 (2nd floor Activity Room) Glenmore: St. David's, 271 Glenmore Rd: Tuesdays 10-11:30 (main hall).
» Housing Outreach Social Worker: provides support and assistance to seniors to help them maintain wellness and independence. Help available with landlord/tenant issues, exploring housing options, choosing appropriate housing, completing forms, applying for benefits, coordinating services and understanding options.
» Community Volunteer Income Tax Program: provides trained volunteers to prepare income tax forms for those with low income.
» Eldernet: Computer mentoring/training may be provided to individuals who cannot attend lessons/courses in the community.
» PALS (Partners Assisting Local Seniors) Program: information available to staff/management of local businesses to assist them to recognize signs of risk in the elderly, and provides a telephone number to call for help.
