Duration: 2 minutes

In soccer, ACL injuries usually happen when there's no direct contact with any of the other players on the field.

What happens is an excessive tension force is applied onto the ACL and that can happen with a quick snap or twist or tear. You can have a partial tear or a full tear.

On the field, ACL injuries tend to happen when there's quick deceleration, so it occurs with quick stopping motions or changes in directions, or pivoting around other players.

Usually at the time of injury of an ACL tear it can be quite painful. Sometimes you'll hear a pop or a snap and that'll be more of an indication that you've completely torn your ACL.

If you suspect you've suffered an ACL injury or other type of soccer injury, consult your physician or physiotherapist.
