Q:

Should I go to my doctor or the ER for my atrial fibrillation symptoms?

A:

If you are experiencing symptoms from your atrial fibrillation, such as shortness of breath or palpitations, you should review these with your health care provider. If your symptoms are mild are you are able to function well and perform your daily activities with little effect from your atrial fibrillation, you can likely visit your physician to address your symptoms. However, if you are feeling unwell from your atrial fibrillation symptoms and have moderate to severe shortness of breath and palpitations, you should consider visiting the ER to get your heart rhythm restored to normal as soon as possible.
