Bipolar disorders are a type of mood disorder. There are several subtypes of bipolar disorders. The most common ones are Bipolar 1 and 2 disorders. These affect approximately 5 percent of the population, which means that we have about 1.5 million people with this condition in Canada. Bipolar disorder is a serious psychiatric condition.

We all forget things as we age, but that doesn’t mean we have dementia. Dementia isn’t just one condition - it’s a term that refers to symptoms that cause a decline in mental ability that interferes with daily life. Alzheimer's is the most common type of dementia and accounts for 60 to 80 percent of cases. Vascular dementia is the second most common dementia type and occurs after a stroke. Memory loss that worsens over time can be another type of dementia.  Pour plus d'informations et les services locaux des psychiatres locaux à Montréal et à Québec PQ, contactez votre psychiatre local

Such a shame. Dr. Sylvain Laniel wasn't helpful to me or my parents at all. We felt even more restless, and anxious. Plus, he gave me medication by injection, which I had strongly refused. Still forced it on me physically and they injected me several times, which as a side effect due to this medication, I had a severe allergic reaction. I will not list the symptoms here, because they were many, some even showed in my blood test results (my prolactin was very high: 200, CK was 2000 and others like my MPV were also high )... My mental and physical health was worse when I left the hospital than when I had entered and he even kept me there for several months, way too long for no apparent reason, which made me even more depressed and anxious, as the environment there isn't relaxing or calming, because the patients there are very noisy and violent (which I understand, because they are mostly sick, but just saying it's not reassuring). I've seen and heard things I thought I would never... Though some of the few staffs there are very kind and caring, rare are they. Most of them are also violent, uncompassionate, don't take their jobs seriously and spend most of their time just talking and laughing out loud during the night, just outside of the patients rooms. One of the staff members also provoked and insulted me, but I did not react, just looked at him with an unpleasant look. Also if you want to feel safe and at ease, this is definitely not the place to go to treat your health, worst experience ever, security is very absent, they'll show up, but when something actually happens in any room, though there are cameras, they do nothing at all, as if their not even keeping an eye on things. Very disappointed and traumatized, if I can say the least, of this experience and I went a few times there, but my 2 recent ones were the worst. Lastly, every patient is different, even if their diagnosis might be similar, doctors and staff should treat each one differently, with the same level of respect, as we are humans and not animals. Most patients there are sleep deprived or don't sleep at all for several days, so the brain can't function normally, and we might say things that don't make sense out of fatigue and irritation, but that doesn't make us any less intelligent and we shouldn't be treated in such a rough way, as most of us remember everything that happened afterwards and will not forgive the doctors and staff members that treated us so poorly, because they are educated in that field and should know what they are doing wrong. Sadly, as patients we have to live with these memories and deal with them for a very long period of time, before the memories become less vivid or disturbing. I hope they're will be doctors and staff members that respect the patients, listen, try to understand them and their actions, give more time to the patient before administering any medication in order not to do it against their will and be compassionate when needed. If you do not have a human heart, please do not try to help others, as sincere caring is always felt, but false concern is easily discerned. Thank you
