Bipolar disorders are a type of mood disorder. There are several subtypes of bipolar disorders. The most common ones are Bipolar 1 and 2 disorders. We all forget things as we age, but that doesn’t mean we have dementia. Dementia isn’t just one condition - it’s a term that refers to symptoms that cause a decline in mental ability that interferes with daily life. Alzheimer's is the most common type of dementia and accounts for 60 to 80 percent of cases. Vascular dementia is the second most common dementia type and occurs after a stroke. Memory loss that worsens over time can be another type of dementia.  Pour plus d'informations et les services locaux des psychiatres locaux à Montréal et à Québec PQ, contactez votre psychiatre local

Dr. Notkin has zero empathy and also intentionally excludes certain information in his note report that he reads to the patient at the end of the session intentionally (probably to protect himself in case of any legal matter or any future harm to the patient. ) He is dismissive of past diagnosis and advices and is completely biased towards any patient exhibiting any impulsive behaviour; dismissing ADD, ADHD and leaning towards GAD and BPD and depression. A doctor with such rigid strong opinions about DSM should be approached cautiously I don't know how he is still practicing with out dated knowledge. Do not recommend.

30yr old female here. My appointment with Dr Notkin went well. He may seem a bit brusque but there’s a lot to cover in a couple of hours - and he is not a therapist. In hindsight, I could have been more honest with him at times as I did feel slightly judged, but that’s on me. Who cares if a specialist judges you- you’re here for their expertise and might as well give them the full picture. My GP referred me to Dr Notkin for help with (seemingly) treatment-resistant depression, and for clarification regarding BDP. I provided Dr Notkin with a list of meds I’ve tried in the past, and left the appointment with a clear game plan as to drug regime and alternative treatment to consider if said regime doesn't help. A chunk of the appointment consists of listening to Dr Notkin dictate his report, which gives you an opportunity to correct or clarify any mistakes. He clearly knows his stuff. I’d recommend him in a heartbeat.

Similar to the negative experiences above I felt interrogated and unheard and he spoke in accusative way. He was very dismissive. There was no cultural awareness or sensitivity. Overall it was very horrible retraumatizing experience.

It felt like an interrogation and I felt unsafe and being accused. Not only was I dismissed immediately about my concerns and was not given a chance to elaborate but I did not feel that my right to consent about sharing of information was respected. I felt exactly the same way as the other reviewers who had a poor experience, word for word. Unfortunately, my family doctor had asked me to go and I didn't think I could refuse at the time. Always listen to the reviews folks.

I was recommended Dr. Notkin by my GP when seeking answers and support for my mental health. I'd like to thank Dr. Notkin, as my experience with him was so bad that I took it upon myself to find people who would actually help me. The entire 4-hour process felt like I was under interrogation, during which I was repeatedly disrespected. He constantly interrupted me while explaining my experiences, claiming it was because he was trying to help me and I was going on too long. He dismissed any of my inquiries regarding ADHD, invalidating my personal experience and told me I could not possibly have it due to my behaviours as a child. When I was unable to clearly articulate a specific example of issues I had been having with individuals in my life, he completely gaslit me saying that because I didn't have any "proof" I was imagining these issues as a result of my social anxiety. I do not think this man should be practicing psychiatry in 2022 until he updates his current methods and learns to listen to and respect all people, especially women. His job is to help people, but the only thing he seems to be helping is his own inflated ego.

When seeking consultation on mental health, I would expect to be treated with empathy and made comfortable to communicate myself truly. In this case, Dr Notkin's assessment felt like an interrogation. Furthermore, he dismissed me of my current ADHD diagnosis entirely, despite his clear acknowledgement of my attention symptoms; cutting off my explanations often, snapping at me to focus and listen clearly, causing us to exceed the 4-hour time limit. I found the observations Dr Notkin presented as insightful, but not helpful.

Went to him because even after an MS diagnosis, and past history of depression and anxiety, my Dr needed to be sure before helping me. In comes Notkin. You have MDD (shocker!) And GAD (double shocker!). And there's a chance of BPD... OK on your way, follow up with your family Dr. Ok... and now what, with that chance of BPD? NOTHING. thanks for your help, Dr Poker.
