NEW Treatments Methods

Dr. Norman Shiffman, MD, FRCSC Bio

In his clinic, Dr. Shiffman, his associates and well-trained staff are dedicated to providing you with optimum cosmetic dermatologic care.

Dr. Shiffman believes that there is a strong link between Dermatology and aesthetic care. Two aestheticians/cosmetic procedure consultants are available to help treat acne patients, perform glycolic peels, laser hair removal and discuss the various cosmetic procedures and treatments that are available.

All other cosmetic procedures such as Botox and dermal filler injections are performed by Dr. Shiffman and NOT by nurses or technicians.

We take a no-nonsense approach to cosmetic Dermatologic treatment. We understand that:

1) Money doesn't grow on trees.-á We will always explain clearly, the exact and full cost of treatment before it is done. We always strive to give you the most value for your cosmetic dollar. Sometimes, small, inexpensive procedures such as removal of a few growths and spots, can make a greater difference than a more expensive procedure.

2) Patients don't like the hard sell. We feel that well-informed patients are an asset to our practice. Our goal is to provide you with as much accurate information as possible and then let you decide which, if any, treatments are for you. If you feel that you need some extra time to decide whether to proceed with a treatment, we will always encourage you to think about it at home before making up your mind.

3) With all the information, misinformation and hype about various cosmetic procedures, it is difficult for the public to know what, and who, to believe. We take great pride in the knowledge that our patients trust us to give them honest advice on which-á procedures are going to be helpful for them and sometimes, even more important, which ones are not likely to be helpful.

4) You want access to our office in a timely fashion. Because we limit our practice mainly to the cosmetic aspects of dermatologic care, we are able to see you in a short period of time. You will not have to wait forever to get an appointment. You deserve good service. We strive to provide it.

5) Your time is valuable. You can't wait hours to be seen. We try to see patients as close to their appointment time as possible. Many patients are amazed by the punctuality of our office. We don't over-book. Our aestheticians are also available on some evenings and on Saturdays if you are unable to see them during regular office hours.

6) You deserve to be treated courteously and with respect. We have a spacious and bright facility with a large airy waiting area. We have friendly and competent staff to greet you. We want you to enjoy the experience of coming to our office. The vast majority of our new patients are referred by current patients that are pleased with us. This gives us great satisfaction.

Treatment varies depending on the type of skin disorder you have.

  • Diagnosis: The diagnosis of granuloma annulare is usually confirmed through a skin biopsy. This is essential because there are other skin conditions and infections that can mimic its appearance, and a biopsy helps distinguish it from other possibilities.

  • Course and Treatment: The condition often resolves on its own within a few years, disappearing as mysteriously as it appeared. Treatment may involve topical corticosteroids initially, but these might not always yield satisfactory results. Corticosteroids can also be injected into the lesions, which might be more effective but can be more uncomfortable. Some individuals choose not to treat it, especially if the condition is limited. Phototherapy and stronger immunosuppressant medications can be options for those with widespread disease, but these decisions require a discussion of risks and benefits with a physician.

It's important to note that the condition is associated with some uncertainties and variations in its course, with most cases being self-limited. Consulting with a medical professional for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment options is recommended in regards to Laser Medicine and Surgery
