We all forget things as we age, but that doesn’t mean we have dementia. Dementia isn’t just one condition - it’s a term that refers to symptoms that cause a decline in mental ability that interferes with daily life. Alzheimer's is the most common type of dementia and accounts for 60 to 80 percent of cases. Vascular dementia is the second most common dementia type and occurs after a stroke. Medical doctors and psychiatry in general need to recognize mental illness as an illness that is often associated with many issues of being human and other illness. For example, poor sleep can also be sleep disorders that are treated under that speciality (that was my case), gut health, diet, exercise, and finding ways to overcome the lack of motivation or fear of change interferes with suggestion of you need to get out and meet people more, you need to eat better, you need to get over it, etc. And education on how to do all those things is often needed. and presenting well intellectually does not meet you have the tools to overcome your own mental health symptoms.
