We all forget things as we age, but that doesn’t mean we have dementia. Dementia isn’t just one condition - it’s a term that refers to symptoms that cause a decline in mental ability that interferes with daily life. Alzheimer's is the most common type of dementia and accounts for 60 to 80 percent of cases. Vascular dementia is the second most common dementia type and occurs after a stroke. Memory loss that worsens over time can be another type of dementia.  Pour plus d'informations et les services locaux des psychiatres locaux à Montréal et à Québec PQ, contactez votre psychiatre local

For people to quit discriminating against other's whose ILLNESS JUST HAPPENS TO BE A MENTAL HEALTH ONE. EVERYONE OF US GOES THROUGH SOME SORT OF MENTAL HEALTH AND/OR ADDICTION IN OUR LIFETIMES. NONE OF US SHOULD HAVE TO FEEL AFRAID/ANXIOUS ABOUT LETTING FAMILY, FRIENDS AND THE PUBLIC IN GENERAL TO KNOW THAT OUR STRUGGLES IN LIFE JUST HAPPEN TO BE A MENTAL HEALTH OR AN ADDICTION CONCERN. FELLOW CANADIAN'S PLEASE QUIT DISCRIMINATING AGAINST US JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND US. INSTEAD PLEASE STAND BY US AND ENCOURAGE US TO SEEK OUT WHATEVER HELP WE NEED. MY NAME IS TERRY AND MY STRUGGLE IN LIFE JUST HAPPENS TO BE BIPOLAR. I ALSO HAVE ANXIETY AND GET PANIC ATTACKS. I STRUGGLE WITH PTSD BECAUSE I WAS A YOUTH COUNSLER AT T.B RILEY SCHOOL WHEN A KNIFING OCCURRED THERE. THEN JUST AS I WAS STARTING TO HEAL FROM THIS EMOTIONALLY A HOSPITAL IN CALGARY HAD ME, IN MY PYJAMAS, PHYSICALLY KICKED ME OUT OF THEIR HOSPITAL. AFTER THAT IT TOOK ME A FULL YEAR OF RECOVERING. 3 MONTHS IN CLARESHOLM AND I BEGGED THE FOOTHILLS HOSPITAL TO GIVE ME ELECTRO-SHOCK THERAPY. Dr. Macgougan (my pschiatrist) was against it. But one of my Gramma's had mental illness and my mom told me that electro-shock therapy worked for her for about 5 years, then she had to have it done again. My gramma lived with mental illness for 99 years before "Our Heavenly Father" took her home. If not for Dr. MacGougan and his secretary, 2 hospitals in Calgary, Red Deer General Hospital, Claresholm, help regulating my meds, God's help/love and lol having my brain scrambled, but also cleaned out through electro-shock therapy. Tks for letting me share. Terry
