Featuring Dr. Ian Gardiner, MD, FRCPC, Radiologist Duration: 1 minute Women often ask me which of the three techniques – mammography, ultrasound or MRI is best. And I always tell them that they all are the best. They have to be used in conjunction, they're complementary, and so you can't use one in isolation from another. Mammography is hands down the best way to see microcalcifications, which are one of the worrisome signs of an early cancer. Ultrasound is the best way to perform a biopsy in most situations, and MRI is a terrific way to see the true extent of cancer in a given breast and in the opposite breast.
