MRI is a technique that allows physicians to look at the soft tissues of the body. A radio frequency is used to knock your hydrogen atoms out of line, and as they move back into alignment, they emit a tiny electric signal. Because the MRI machine has strong magnets, it detects this electric signal.
CT scan stands for Computed Tomography scan. Tomography is the process of generating a 2D image of a section through a 3D object. The 3D image is made after numerous 2D images are taken around a single axis of rotation. Breast MRI
A breast MRI machine uses a combination of magnetic and FM radio waves to create 3D images that can be analyzed and manipulated using a computer. During a breast MRI, you will be asked to lie on your front with your breasts in a hollow on the table. The table then moves into a scanning machine, where initial images are taken. A contrast agent is given intravenously so abnormalities can be more easily detected.
Shoulder MRI & CT Scans
If you've suffered a shoulder injury, your doctor may recommend that you undergo a shoulder MRI or CT scan. A CT (computed topography) scan is a type of imaging that uses X-rays to create cross-sectional pictures of different parts of the body. A CT scan highlights the bone issues with shoulder injuries.
A shoulder MRI uses magnetic and FM radio waves to create images, and is useful for detecting soft tissue injuries.
Back MRI Scans (Lumbar MRI)
Back injuries can be caused by many different things, from a car accident to a sports injury. If you've suffered a back injury, or if you have unexplained back pain, your physician may suggest you get a back MRI. The back MRI will create pictures of the lower part of the spine.
Knee MRI & CT Scans
The knee joint is made up of cartilage, bone, ligaments and fluid, with muscles and tendons to help the knee joint move. There are many different conditions that can affect the knee, causing you pain and difficulty walking. A knee MRI scan uses MRI technology to create pictures of the knee joint and surrounding muscles and other tissues.
Head MRI
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) uses radio frequency pulses and a powerful magnetic field to produce detailed pictures of internal body structures. Head MRI may be used to help diagnose brain tumours, eye and inner ear disorders, stroke, and even causes of headache.
